✖ DESTINATIONS IN THE CITY

✖ + Stark Tower // Porter Tower |
Located in Midtown on 9th Avenue and 52nd, the Tower has become something of a fixture since the imPorts started showing up. Formerly a research lab, most of the employees quit a little several years ago when the director stopped picking up his phone. Without Mr. Scotts to manage the new projects, most just turned to their own work or found jobs elsewhere. Of course, it has nothing to do with the appearance of a sentient suit of armour that appeared and bought the entire building.

The inside of the Tower is the first thing new arrivals see, followed closely by the clearly marked exit signs downstairs to the first floor and onto the street. The only rooms accessible to… Well, anyone… are the huge, multi-story labs that the Porter resides in. But the low lighting and eerie sounds will probably make them leave as soon as possible to make their way to…

✖ + The M.A.C. |
The Metahuman Apartment Complex! Not that anyone calls it that anymore – 'M.A.C.' is how it's marked on the maps and referred to over the network, so that's what most of the imPorts call it. Found on Columbus between 84th and 85th in the City's upper West side, it's a bit of a hike from the Tower, but it's a straight enough line that new arrivals should be able to find their way around. The distance is worth it for subtlety, though: ask any local and they'll just tell you it's the MacIntyre building, home to the reclusive and eccentric (but totally human!) rich.

Twenty stories tall and with several apartments on each floor, the complex would have plenty of room even if every meta decided to cash in on their free rooming – and many don't! There's parking, the mail rooms and a comfortable lobby on the first floor; laundry rooms and a pool on the second floor; and a garbage chute on every landing. Each apartment comes with the basic amenities; one bedroom, one bathroom, a living room, a small but functional kitchen, as well as your basic home appliances: large appliances like fridge and oven come standard, as well as the smaller-scale toaster, microwave, radio, and a small television with basic channels. They even get some furniture, too. Try not to set the couches on fire, alright? They smell awful when burned. All in all, a pretty sweet deal for somebody who isn't even from this world, huh?

Oh. And there aren't any cameras in the apartment building. Apart from the security cameras in the elevators and stairways, but that's the extent of it.

✖ + Stark Technologies Headquarters |
Stark Technologies is the lead producer of consumer electronics in the city. Not only that, but it also houses the offices of the Initiative, and the topmost level is reserved for Iron Man himself. Beneath the building is several layers going deeper and deeper underground, where several of Stark's R&D Departments are. Beyond the tower, there are several StarkTech subsidiaries and extended campuses throughout the City, and extending futher across the globe as time passes. Located on Silicon Alley.

Owned and operated by [personal profile] liverletdie. Employees are listed here; Hiring goes on here.

✖ + OsCorp |
A big business with a shady past (at least back in its home New York), but good luck finding the closets full of skeletons in these winding halls. In understandable competition with StarkTech, it's devoted to much the same business; R&D, technology and systems development, chemical research/manufacturing, weapons technology, etc. It enters onto a spacious lobby, and offices and research labs on the 3-5th floors. Floor 6 and up are restricted access and tightly secured, likely more research and labs; and the basement is not accessible. It's located at East 57th and Lexington Ave, and is currently hiring lower level positions.

Owned and operated by [personal profile] osreborn, hiring done here.

✖ + The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning |
The Xavier Institute For Higher Learning, located in the heart of the Bronx, grants students K-12 a safe and friendly environment in which to explore the finer points of the educational process. Specializing in imPort affairs, though not terribly exclusive either, services are also offered to train imPorts in the safe use of their unique abilities, and assist them in identifying them if such is necessary.

Currently headed by [personal profile] professorlionface and [personal profile] radiantly, faculty and student roster list here.

✖ + Department of Integration, (aka D.O.I, Department of Immigration, Department of Homeland Security) |
The DOI is a department in The City that deals with immigrant relations, including Imports and how to better smooth over the relations between Imports and natives as well as job placement and citizenship relations. It is a hop, skip and jump away from City Hall, and looks like any old government building. It was founded by some old politician, but is quickly becoming overrun by Callie Maggotbone [personal profile] maggotbone, starting their Import Relations Sect shortly after her arrival in May 2011. It is government funded, and is currently looking for social workers and enforcers. Anything immigrant or Import related shuffles through here, albeit slowly at first until Callie resumes full control of the department.

First mentioned by [personal profile] maggotbone in this post.

✖ + Norman Osborn Hospital of Psychiatric Evaluation |
The Norman Osborn Hospital of Psychiatric Evaluation, colloquially known as NOHoPE, is exactly what it sounds like: a psychiatric hospital primarily designed to house imPorts, specifically those arrested on criminal charges.

So you found yourself in NOHoPE: a sizable three-story building that finds itself just outside the limits of the City. Due to being imPort-run at its onset, the hospital underwent a probationary period of monitoring by the state as it was initially deemed a potential experiment. It has long since been taken off its probation and now functions regularly, even serving to house non-imPort patients and employ non-imPort staff. Practices are above board and there is no ill-repute surrounding the hospital's methods, outside of the rumors and skepticism regarding its founders.

The founders of NOHoPE were Norman Osborn and Dr. Angelica Einstürzen, but neither holds authoritative say on the hospital currently. The acting President of the hospital is, currently, a non-imPort of good repute in the City's psychiatric community.

As mentioned, the building is three stories, residing on a large expanse of land with generous windows and green gardens surrounding. The interior is immaculate and clean and overwhelmingly white. The main floor holds the treatment rooms, a clinic, the recreation room, the cafeteria, and the visitor center where patients are led when they have visitors, which has provided chairs and separates the patients from their visitors by glass. The upper floors house the patients's rooms, which are modestly furnished; their amenities include a bed and a chair, and they are let out and led upon request if they need to use the bathroom. Each room has one wall of thick, bulletproof glass and the doors require security badges and a staff ID code to be opened. Security at NOHoPE is quite advanced, making escape or forced entry incredibly difficult to anyone but the most skilled and most lucky of people. On the bottom floor is the gym, treatment rooms for more severe cases -- surgery, ECT, etc. -- medical stores, and isolation rooms. There are a few barred rooms that no one seems to have entry access to, but there is likely nothing inside.

Upon admission to NOHoPE, as it is a hospital designed with imPort patients in mind, all patients have their abilities nullified while in its walls. This is achieved partially through medication, partially through technology that runs through the building. Similarly, visitors with offensive abilities will find their powers nullified while inside NOHoPE, as the technology in the building focuses on offensive abilities while the medications are tailored more toward the defensive/passive powers.

Co-founded by [personal profile] osreborn. The patient and staff records are housed here.

✖ + Captain America monument |
The former Columbus Circle Fountain at Central Park has been modified as of the morning of 6/3/09 into a monument to Captain America. The old top half of the fountain has been planted elsewhere in the park.

Owned by the City, actually, but modified by [personal profile] tinybutdeadly.

✖ + Bimboyz |
Bimboyz is a male strip club/pizzeria/buffet which is known for its $3 Mai Tais and excellent hot wings. The pizza buffet is also amazing. Bimboyz advertises via coupon booklets and fliers which are easily found in dumpsters. Thursday night is karaoke night at Bimboyz, hosted by the MC, Julio. There is also a theme night on Tuesdays featuring strippers dressed as pop culture figures like superheroes or action stars. However, you must be eighteen or over to enter Bimboyz.

First mentioned in this log.

✖ Tempest Bar |
It's in a fairly seedy stretch of 8th Avenue, but it straddles the line between dive bar and borderline respectable, because it used to be something notable in this town. However, when Sean McGee, the first owner, died in an altercation behind the bar, his son Seamus took over, and he wasn't really thrilled to be forced into the family business. He had other ideas on what to do with his life. So slowly, he merged the two, making the Tempest quietly but steadily more friendly to the criminal element. Its doors are open to low-life thugs, thieves and mercs, but it's clean and slick enough to be welcoming towards the higher end sophisticates of the underworld spectrum as well. If you're lookin' for professional trouble, you can likely find it here, but that's very much on the DL.

✖ + Hell Towers (Actually called Garden Heights) |
Garden Heights is a highrise apartment complex in Brooklyn owned by the Chin family. The patriarch of the Chin family made the mistake of doing some rather illegal things, which Hiruma Youichi found out about. Hiruma owned the top two floors. Upon his port-out, retainership of those two floors (and presumably the blackmail to preserve ownership) was left in possession of Bakura Ryu and Alastair Krajac. Turned over entirely to Alastair upon Bakura's port-out.

There is a large football field out back. The top of the building is actually a fairly nice garden with a koi pond accessible by all tenants. The 10th floor features a "mancave" with a full kitchen, wall-sized hi-def TV, video games, arcade games, and an aquarium housing Pierre, the reef shark Hiruma caught in Tahiti. Studio, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments are available a discounted rates to imports via Alastair.

[personal profile] thanatoast dreamed it all up, [personal profile] shiromadoushi created the floor maps.

✖ + Xanatos Enterprises |
(Just ignore the giant castle on the top, okay?) Though not as well-known as other Import companies, Xanatos Enterprises is slowly making its way in the world of business. Focusing mostly on robotics, security and defense technologies, most of the building is comprised of research and labs, as well as personal offices for Xanatos and any other higher-ups. It is currently hiring for any/all positions.

Owned and operated by [personal profile] hastheedge. Hiring can be done here
