are you guys ready for some valentines shenanigans?
I sure hope so, because I'm bringing some to you fresh off the bad idea express! For those who don't know, this is the first time that Nepeta has ever experienced Valentine's Day and she's pretty pumped. She also happens to have the ability to make people feel things through pheromone manipulation.
...you can see where this is heading.
On February 14 Nepeta is going to be so pumped up about everyone going around being sickeningly romantic that her powers are going to activate in public places and pretty much unintentionally turn her into a Real Life Shipper. BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME YOU MAY ASK
Well! If you so desire, your character can be affected and suddenly develop romantic feelings for people they normally wouldn't think of that way (or people they would, Nepeta's not picky). Your archnemesis might start looking pretty hot, or maybe that coworker of yours who always snipes your parking spot is suddenly the most smoochable babe on the planet.
Not into the romance? No problem! Nepeta is a troll, and as you may or may not know trolls have four forms of equally legitimate romance. Nepeta isn't going to stop at just the human kind and will also be influence people towards the other three as well. There's a page on the Homestuck wiki that goes more in-depth about the other quadrants, but for the less brave I'm going to be putting small blurbs about them under a cut here.
Moirallegiance is something akin to platonic soulmates - it's a pair that keeps each other emotionally stable, wherein one often acts as the 'pacifier' for a more unbalanced individual. This usually involves feelings jams to hash out bad emotions and current mental states, and shooshpapping, which is basically just patting someone's face relentlessly while whispering 'shoosh'.
Kismesissitude is basically hatesex. Two people who despise each other with all their being and want nothing more than to crush the other's hopes and dreams personally...yet they can't imagine not having the other person in their life. Black romance is violent and emotionally charged and involves a lot of one-upping and antagonism, but a healthy one will never stray into actually wanting their partner dead. Dead people can't keep suffering, after all.
Auspisticism is the only quadrant which involves three people. It is basically one person acting as a mediator between two bickering parties to keep their relationship from burgeoning into black romance. There is likely a lot of fussing and meddling involved sinceKanaya is the only one who does it mediation is never easy.
So really you could have anything from a nemesis suddenly concerned about his rival's mental state to lovey-dovey couples having hate-makeouts in the park to a random guy approaching a fighting pair and trying to smooth things over. It's pretty open for the most ridiculous shenanigans you can think of.
These effects will last the entirety of the 14 and disappear the next day. Nepeta won't know that she's doing this, but if anyone would like to notice the little cat troll hanging around every time there's an outbreak of sloppy makeouts and put two and two together and confront her about it I'm totally open to that.
This plot is completely optional, so if you don't feel like getting tangled up in stupid relationship shenanigans you don't have to. Nepeta's powers can be overcome with enough willpower and are a little weaker than usual during all this because she isn't consciously using them. Also, her powers affect emotions and not personality - so while an icly timid character will be filled with the lovey-dovey feelings during this and act on them, they're not going to suddenly be throwing off their clothes and jumping people in Central Park. If that makes sense.
I'll be making another post on the 14 with the link to a catchall log I'll be putting up so that things don't get too clogged commwise (although you guys are still free to make your own or comment about it on the network). Aaand that's about it, I think.
PLEASE USE THIS POST FOR SHENANIGAN PLOTTING OR QUESTIONS. I'll be happy to answer as best I can. c:

also this... is a completely asinine question that I should have asked when I responded to the plot in the first place, but would it be possible for characters to feel these urges for nonsentient beings? I swear to god that isn't as terrible as it sounds, just, like, if someone suddenly wanted to auspisticize for a pair of the furious chickens in the MAC and spent the whole day trying to wrangle them away from one another could that be doable?

BUT GIVE ME THE OTHER THREE. She doesn't have a Kismesiss in the city. That seems wrong. Also open to be the worst mediator ever/having someone mediate for her.
