New to the game? New characters? Just a little unsure of how you're doing? That's what this is here for, people.

How it works: Comment here - others will reply to that comment with what they have to say, and hopefully many lulz and happifuntimes will be had. We're encouraging asking questions if you don't know why or how a character got to the point they're at in game, and we're encouraging constructive criticism that isn't:

"Oh, you're so good bb!"
or
"I hate you. Diaf."

So make it good! You only get one shot every other month, right? At any rate, before you go off to comment, remember: You will get comments you agree with, and you will get comments you don't agree with; thus is the way of life. Don't take it personal. Don't get angry and start trolling. These people don't have anything against you as a person — unless, uh, they do, which we won't abide by — and we're all here to have fun, right? So let's act like it.

Anonymous comments have been temporarily enabled in the OOC community for the sake of anonymous crit, but as this privilege was abused last time and the moderators had to intervene, as promised this time around we are keeping logging IP on. We will not be checking the IP-addresses unless things get out of hand, nor will we be sharing them ever, but this is a measure in place to help prevent further abuse of anonymous commenting. If this causes discomfort, most players, as well as the mods, have personal HMDs on their journals. You are also free to contact any moderators privately or by PMing this account.

Other comments? I think everyone is pretty true to form but let me know if you see anything you don't agree with. Ned has been here the longest so he's changed the most. Spike is just coming off a canon update so he's pretty, you know, canonical. And Lily & Chris are relatively new in CNC so any comments or crit is beyond welcome.

I'm honestly surprised that you have five characters considering your (slightly shaky) activity levels. Your activity seems to be sporadic and minimal at best; I can't remember the last time I saw a Dexter or Lily post/thread. I'm afraid that you may be biting off more than you can chew-which sucks, because I really like seeing all your characters around ingame and don't want any of them to get the shaft!

I agree that my activity had been less than stellar, anon. However, this month I've really stepped it up re: tagging around and reaching out for new CR. All of my characters have made AC for June and it's the 14th and that's a pattern even in my worse activity months I've tried to adhere to. I have a Dexter post planned for after my hiatus and Lily has been tagging up both the main and logs comm (as has Dexter tbh). I don't want to sound ungrateful for the crit I would just ask more specific examples? Especially given that Lily has not been in game that long and I think I've done decently with her AC thus far.

One thing that's stuck me as a little weird is that you treat the hero aliases as if the Porter assigns them on arrival. The characters are supposed to have set those themselves, it's the first thing the machine asks them for after their name.

There was Dexter's post about it, and comments to that effect in Chris Traeger's OOC intro. If you don't see them that way, you've at least approached them in a way that gives that impression.

I would like to reiterate the first crit that you got. I feel like with your schedule, having five characters is a lot. It feels like a lot of your tags are spread out, and that you're stretching yourself too thin between your characters. Personally, I feel like waiting a long time between tags, while not necessarily a bad thing, is discouraging when you're also posting with other characters, while other tags are going unanswered. I'm talking mostly in reference to making a Spike post 6 days after a Chris post, which is a short amount of time, especially when there are tons of tags on the first post that are waiting to be tagged, and I know you will backtag for forever, but it feels very soon, when there's a lot of tagging that hasn't been done on the first one.

I also don’t feel like your characters have a very large presence in the game, like the first crit said. While I've noticed more recently, like you said, that you’ve been trying to tag out, I also feel like it's really wearing you down between your characters, and it shows. A lot of times, when tagging with you, I get the feeling that your tags are rushed, or that you’re not giving much to go off of, in terms of CR. I have a lot of trouble getting deep CR with your characters, and I think a lot of it is just trying to get tags done, and trying to do too much. I feel like your characters are providing no investment into the CR, and it’s very discouraging, because I really enjoy your character voices, and the way that you characterize them. I think all of them are generally well written, but it's extremely disappointing to get tags that aren't really showing much enthusiasm, or much to go off of.

I really appreciate this criticism, anon, and I do apologize for discouraging you in any way. My work schedule went from hectic-crazy to kind of normal crazy and now it's finally receding back into 4-days-a-week-motherfucker. While it was crazy I probably should've have been apping so many people, and I will freely admit to that, and apologize, again, for any inconsistencies it may have caused.

I think that after my hiatus I will be able to focus on all five characters and I would ask you and above anon to give me the chance to show that. I've played 5 characters in CNC before and done quite well with it, when I had the time.

As for Spike's post, it was a canon update so I did want to get it out there. If you've been playing with me a very long time you know I get self-conscious about new characters and tend to tag a bit slowly with them for a while until I get them more settled in the game overall. I can only ask that you bear with me and be patient because I do have many plans for Chris in the future.

I am sorry to hear that my tags seemed "rushed" because I try to only do tags when I have enough time/brainpower to sit down and think about them. So while that may mean a sporadic backtag schedule, it is my goal to never sacrifice ICness or not give my partner anything to go on. If you could cite specific examples here, I would be grateful, but even without them, I will be more mindful of this.

And as for my characters not having a gigantic presence? I kind of, like it that way? I play CNC mostly slice-of-life. Ned has the Pie Hole but he is also moving into different plots in June and July. And has always done plots, so he's my biggest "player" as far as game presence goes and I'd like it to remain that way. Spike with his canon update and a new addition to the game (Buffy) will definitely feel more compelled to get involved in things other than an errant plot here or there, so I hope I can bring him up in other things.

Dexter doesn't WANT to be noticed as anything but average everyday normalguy so he's mostly sticking to his brother for anything too whacked out though I try to comment around with him anon as well so people know like, there's someone in their midst who is NOT ALL THERE. But, like his brother, he's going to stick to killing NPCs. And the one NPCs he has killed thus far acquired him a boat, which he will probably use to dispose of the next guy. I do have plans for Dex as well in this regard, but I want to build up his cute persona CR first. As cute as he gets anyway...

Lily and Chris are pretty shiny. Chris is eventually looking to get into City Hall but these things take time and he knows a cabinet can be set until next term, so he's trying to get in good with Mitch. I think he'll have somewhat of a presence over time, but it's not been much time at all to build that up... and Lily isn't a very forthright person, who wants to be seen or anything, so her CR will be much slower-moving, I predict.

I'm a little confused on Spike and his powers? In his app, I read that his weakness to the sun doesn't apply because of alternate universe shenanigans, but the rest of his weaknesses are still listed as applying. But I read in an ooc comment to one of the memes awhile ago (I think it was a CR meme) that Spike has no weaknesses. I was wondering which was so and how that was?

Basically, in Buffyverse, when vampires travel to alternate realities the normal rules do not apply. Which makes sense because the original universe of CNC didn't contain vampires. So he can't die by way of sunlight or be hurt by crosses etc. He can be seen in a mirror and eat garlic bread. He can still be staked or beheaded as a method of death, but the rest is moot.
