Plot! Where there is a field trip and the Magic School Bus got nothing on Aurican

Okay, I've been talking about it since FOREVER on plurk, so might as well kick it into gear.

Aurican is going to get bored coming to and from his Catskills Mountains home to the City. And when he gets bored, he goes exploring.

This means a field trip exploring all the United States mainland! And this is where your characters come in: Aurican isn't quite informative about US cultures and such, so he might need a guide or several on places to go, where to sleep, and what is not for eating. In canon, he can fit three people on his back. I'm going to add in a fourth rider because he's a big guy, another person isn't going to kill his back. So here will be a list of people who will be his riders.

1. Carrie Kelley
2. Terry McGinnis
3. Calvin
4. Terry Ward

Of course, this will require a saddle or some kind of restraint as well, even if the elves seem perfectly happy to ride him bareback. Anyone handy in that sort of thing? Aurican will pay your character back eventually.

Those who want to be part of the trip but the list is full or your character is afraid of heights? They can tag along in a car, or any form of transportation they feel comfortable with. Aurican can fly, but he can fly slow enough for your characters to follow. Or he and the riders can just meet up to your character to wherever place they are visiting. It's up to you!

I'm going to make a network post about him making his trip and asking for suggestions as to where to go, and eventually I will put up a log. Time-wise, this trip might take two and a half weeks, but if your character needs to quit the trip for whatever reason, Auri will try to help out however he can, depending where they are.

EDIT: Another dragon joins the trip! If Auri's slots are full or you just want to hang with a bronze dragon instead, you're in luck! Crucible can only carry four people as well.

fair warning Terry's last experience of dragon riding wasn't stellar though. He almost launched it into the stratosphere and then accidentally almost crashed it and then almost fell to his death.

and don't worry about the dragon riding, Aurican wouldn't let alone try to launch him so that won't be a problem. Just holding on the ropes/reins/saddle thing will be the tricky part.

no no see. He wasn't steering last time. The problems came b/c this was super early into his time in the City and the porter had given him powers of gravity manipulation for himself and things he's touching, so he can make them unbearably heavy or very, very light. And he accidentally took the poor dragon on a wild rollercoaster of gravity intensities before i think getting attacked and passing out and there were flying zebras who were shooting lightning bolts and ALL IN ALL HE SPENT A WHILE THINKING HE'D BEEN DRUGGED.

Yeah no he's got it well in hand by now. His first month or however long he spent a lot of time jumping and hitting his head on ceilings and probably accidentally almost killed someone and also almost crashed a dragon on mainstreet and all in all it's just a bad memory.

My Terry would be fine on the trip too! Someone might still have to drag him alone because of previous Bad Experiences with Dragons and all but yeah no IT'D BE GOOD FOR HIM.

Oh my god I hope you don't mind unrelated questions, but ^^^somebody else^^^ lives in the Catskills, and I'm wondering if there's sometimes been a dragon flying around.

It's possible to see Aurican flying around in dragon form! It is usually in cities or in towns you see him in human form, but occasionally he'll fly over them in dragon form.

Would certainly be interested in throwing Crucible in along with the road trip. He could even likely carry a few more if needed.

Though he likely won't be showing his human self during the trip unless its really needed or its just Auri and him at the time.

Sweet! I can edit the post and add up your list. How many people Crucible can carry?

Crucible's pretty big, though not too sure how big Auri is, though could be a similar amount, he can easily carry at least two in the books so I'd say 2-4, depending on how many are needed.

In the book it's said that he and Darlantan are the largest out of their nest mates but who knows if that means gold and silver dragons are bigger than the other metallics, or they are just big for their sizes. Either way, I'll go for a safe four people average for Aurican's back.

So maybe four people to Crucible's list?

That's true, Golds and Silvers are usually bigger than bronzes, though as it stands, Crucible as a dragonlord is bigger than any normal bronze.
