NOHOPE’s Reckoning Starting Thursday the 23rd!

Jesse here, notifying that the rescheduled hostage crisis at the ImPort psychiatric institution is coming up a week from today! The full writeup is here, so here is a brief recap:

-Some people are very upset with Jack Bauer and other rogue ImPorts staging international interventions and using extreme methods in fighting bad guys. This group is called Reckoning, and they have guns. They're covertly sponsored by a splinter faction of the country Dolvania, which Jack secretly attacked in 2012. They know that Jack has to visit NOHoPE regularly for psychiatric treatment, as a former inmate at the institution.

-Reckoning will attack NOHoPE and take PC and NPC hostages on the 23rd! This is bad because NOHoPE has power dampeners inside to keep ImPorts from breaking in or out, so it’s going to be tricky for superpowered people (i.e. most player characters) to stage a rescue!

-Reckoning will demand the surrender of Jack Bauer and his accomplices in all illegal actions, to make an example against ImPort interventions. Otherwise, they will execute hostages in 48 hours! They don't know who these accomplices are, just that Jack was in charge of them. They are trying to use the hostages to force Jack’s friends and allies to surrender themselves.

-Jack himself is going to stay loose in the hospital looking for a chance to end the takeover. Depending on how things go, he may succeed or end up captured. Other characters will need to take initiative in finding a way to liberate NOHoPE and save the hostages! The plot will end on the 30th at the latest.

-There will be a log for the entire crisis, with multiple threads:
-one thread for the initial assault on NOHoPE on the 20th
-one thread for those inside the hospital in the ensuing siege
-one thread for characters watching from the outside while NOHoPE is surrounded by police and news crews
-Another thread will be posted for the rescue when it’s been determined what form the rescue will take.

-There will also be a post to the Network by Reckoning on the 23rd making their demands, where characters can talk to and negotiate with them. Jack will also post that day calling on ImPorts to resist Reckoning’s demands.

I've mentioned this previously on Plurk, but just to confirm, Yako will be a hostage, though she'll also be actively working while she's in captivity to persuade their captors (if they're willing to listen) to let them go/waver, possibly indirectly assisting efforts of people trying to get people out or busting in. Whatever works. /o/

Just chiming in here that Harry will also make it known to the Reckoning/other hostages that he's a doctor and will try to doctor people up if terrorists beat them up/they get punched/etc. Which, I kind of expect him to get punched for.

They will allow him out of his cell to do some doctoring for those in need! And punch him anyway because they're kind of jerks. This may or may not be an opportunity for Harry to make trouble for him.

I just saw that they're searching the hostages. Would finding a few large, high quality gemstones in Lila's purse give anyone something to work with?

Reckoning's members are a lot more mercenary than they're pretending to be, so it's quite likely Lila would find herself minus a few gemstones after the search!

All right now that I'm caught up....

Wild Tiger is most likely to show up and do something ridiculous, but I haven't yet determined the parameters. The good news is, he has some training and a power suit that make him still effective without his power - since it only lasts for five minutes anyway. The bad news is, he's a hero who really will risk his life in martyry ways without thinking.

Options: try to infiltrate in the suit, try to draw fire from the bad guys, give himself up in exchange for hostages (especially if he isn't aware of the power dampeners), do something explosive like punch a wall before he gets anywhere near the dampeners, try something even more ridiculous that I haven't thought up yet. Basically, he often acts on instinct and is only right about half the time. As long as he's still in the suit, he'll have his scopes and the Wild Shoot, and is fairly bulletproof, but if he tries to surrender I imagine they won't let him waltz in wearing a power suit.

Yeah, if he surrenders the suit is definitely coming off. I think the option of him turning himself in without realizing his powers will be interfered with is easiest to play out in the plot. And that way once the rescue happens and the power dampeners go down, he'll be able to use his ability again and break loose.

And Kotetsu being the brave dumbass that he is, would totally do it, too. So we'll go with that. He'll show up in the suit but take it off in order to surrender himself to save hostages.

Just leaving a note here that I'd like to have Saber join in as a rescuer, if you please. I won't be back in until this evening so I can't really make more concrete plans than that. ^^;

Okay! Now that I've had a chance to catch up and read everything over, part of me is thinking that once Saber knows about Jack's plan to take out the power dampeners she might see about getting taken as hostage herself. Since her powers involve summoning her armor and sword she'll be able to arm herself the moment the dampeners come back on.

so would she surrender herself claiming to be one of Jack's allies (equalling a ticket straight to tortureville and solitary) or just get herself captured as a regular hostage (better treatment, chance to meet interesting new fellow captives on the third floor).

As a regular hostage to see how they're all being treated and see if she can get something organized on the inside if the opportunity arises.

Okay excellent! How do you want to play this out, and when would she get captured? Retroactively on one of the days that have taken place or today or something else?

Probably on Day two after her conversation with Jack? As for how to play it out, I don't know. How would she even get close enough to the hospital to be taken in without Reckoning thinking she's with Jack or anyone else? What can be done that they don't shoot her on sight? Just go up and tell them she demands to see the hostage conditions or something like that?

If she approaches the building with her hands raised and posing no obvious threat, they'll hear her out in case she's a surrendering 'accomplice' or a negotiator or something like that. Saying something like that she just wants to verify the hostages are unharmed will work; they'll think 'well here's a naive dolt CONGRATULATIONS YOU CAN SEE ALL THE HOSTAGE CONDITIONS FIRSTHAND'.

Not too late at all! The deal is that negotiator characters establish contact with Reckoning- either via their Network post or in the log somehow- and do their best to talk them out of killing people or into releasing hostages, or even just gaining some more information from them.

I'm thinking Victoria would first try the network approach and then appear in the log, so Reckoning at least knows how they were talking to.
