Hello everyone! This is gabbie speaking on behalf of the modteam, announcing some minor changes and clarifications we're making to the application process. Nothing huge, promise.
Effective as of next cycle, we will be requiring voice and prose samples be set
in-game. Whether this means upon their arrival or in some projected future month is up to you, but as we have had problems in the past with applicants recycling scenes and dialogue from the canon and re-framing it into prose that is not creatively their own work,
and as the samples are meant to demonstrate how the character will be played in a collaborative environment, we feel it is time for this to be an official rule.
Additionally, we would like to bring attention to some minor changes and clarifications regarding our
AU/Duplicate rule. Effective as of
last cycle, we have officially made a decision regarding what we will call the Power Girl exception (since she is the character we have been asked about the most): if the character has coexisted in the same universe as their AU counterpart for the
majority of their canon, has a distinctly different and independent role and personality in that shared canon as their counterpart that also does not
rely on their counterpart, they may be applied for. This includes characters that fulfill
most of the above qualifications but also have different parents as their counterparts, such in the case of Nate Grey and Cable Summers.
Clones have always been allowed under our rules, but I'll state it again for the record.
If you plan to make an argument to apply for a character who has a counterpart already in game, they
must fulfill these qualifications to be considered. As such, even characters that have been exempted from this rule in the past by previous modteams/grandfather clauses may not remain applicable anymore under our duplicate rule. The general rule of thumb, barring the exceptions mentioned above, is if a character is already in the City in some form, they cannot be applied for additionally be it an AU counterpart, a future self, an alternate personality, or a reincarnation (
unless you can prove that the characters "souls" exist separately from each other; two Avatars could be applied for, but not two Doctors).
Thank you! If you have any questions, let us know in the comments! As always, if you want to know about a specific character you can always ask a mod for clarification
here or by reaching one of us personally.
