✖ HOWS MY DRIVING? ✖

New to the game? New characters? Just a little unsure of how you're doing? That's what this is here for, people.

How it works: Comment here - others will reply to that comment with what they have to say, and hopefully many lulz and happifuntimes will be had. We're encouraging asking questions if you don't know why or how a character got to the point they're at in game, and we're encouraging constructive criticism that isn't:

"Oh, you're so good bb!"
or
"I hate you. Diaf."

So make it good! You only get one shot every other month, right? At any rate, before you go off to comment, remember: You will get comments you agree with, and you will get comments you don't agree with; thus is the way of life. Don't take it personal. Don't get angry and start trolling. These people don't have anything against you as a person — unless, uh, they do, which we won't abide by — and we're all here to have fun, right? So let's act like it.

Anonymous comments have been temporarily enabled in the OOC community for the sake of anonymous crit, but as this privilege was abused last time and the moderators had to intervene, as promised this time around we are keeping logging IP on. We will not be checking the IP-addresses unless things get out of hand, nor will we be sharing them ever, but this is a measure in place to help prevent further abuse of anonymous commenting. If this causes discomfort, most players, as well as the mods, have personal HMDs on their journals. You are also free to contact any moderators privately or by PMing this account.

Go forth and conquer, Cape and Cowl.

∗ Ruka has been in the City for 3⅓ years. In that time, she's gained (and, more importantly, lost) an entire family, as well as dozens of friends. She has issues! Issues regarding other people regarding her issues!
∗ Yuma's been in the City for... less than a year. He's very SHONEN, but also very sensitive about some things, so he lashes out sometimes in a manner that may seem over the top. He does that...
∗ I have really sucked with posting and tagging lately.

You writing is gorgeous. You use beautiful turns of phrase (for instance, "music spilling out from the back entrances to restaurant kitchens, heavier and more crude than what the diners would consume with their meals" guh) and you're magnificent at continuity and painting every corner of the scene. I don't think this is something I ever told you before, but it's very true.

Ahhh, thank you! If you've mentioned it, I don't remember it -- but also my memory is terrible and we shouldn't trust it.

(as for that line in particular... IT IS ALWAYS TRUE. I have never been in a restaurant kitchen that wasn't playing like. Grunge or super hard rock or rap or justin bieber......... why..... everyone back there was guys......, while the dining area was usually Light Classical. it's so jarring.)

Your communication skills need work. Players don't know how to respond to you because you appear aggressive and condescending. By calling a player's argument faulty, you invalidate legitimate concerns and consequentially, you look incapable of running the game neutrally.

Furthermore, it's childish to comment logged in on anonymous communities and agree with complaints against you without trying to identify or rectify why you seem that way. You're the head mod of a large game and you need to act like one.

First off, thank you for bringing this to my attention, and for coming to talk to me. I really do appreciate it.

I'm always working to improve my communication skills, but I do slip from time to time; I won't deny that. Using "faulty" in that circumstance was definitely a failure on my part. I chose my words improperly, for one, and wasn't as clear as I needed to be. It was not, and is not ever my intention to dismiss a player's opinions or concerns.

As for that, I can see now that it was not the most strategic move on my part; further, being facetious in the later comments was definitely uncalled for. I reacted as though I were just another player, rather than as a moderator, and I was out of line for doing so. You--and everyone else who has been or may in the future be affected by my behavior in that thread--have my sincerest apologies. It will not happen again.
