New to the game? New characters? Just a little unsure of how you're doing? That's what this is here for, people.

How it works: Comment here - others will reply to that comment with what they have to say, and hopefully many lulz and happifuntimes will be had. We're encouraging asking questions if you don't know why or how a character got to the point they're at in game, and we're encouraging constructive criticism that isn't:

"Oh, you're so good bb!"
or
"I hate you. Diaf."

So make it good! You only get one shot every other month, right? At any rate, before you go off to comment, remember: You will get comments you agree with, and you will get comments you don't agree with; thus is the way of life. Don't take it personal. Don't get angry and start trolling. These people don't have anything against you as a person — unless, uh, they do, which we won't abide by — and we're all here to have fun, right? So let's act like it.

Anonymous comments have been temporarily enabled in the OOC community for the sake of anonymous crit, but as this privilege was abused last time and the moderators had to intervene, as promised this time around we are keeping logging IP on. We will not be checking the IP-addresses unless things get out of hand, nor will we be sharing them ever, but this is a measure in place to help prevent further abuse of anonymous commenting. i think we need some hard and fast rules for the time length a character needs to be in game before you can canon or power update them, because recently i've seen a character who was rejected for canon updates because they weren't in game long enough (at slightly over three weeks), but then another character was allowed canon/power updates when they'd only been in game for two weeks, and so a little consistency with the rules i think would be more fair to the player base.

x nemesis is new and i'd really like feedback on him! he's (a) not a woman and (b) pretty forward with his shenanigans, so i think i'll actually be able to hang onto him. i'm trying to strike a good balance between the classy smug snark of uncanny and the abject wackiness of x-club, so if you have any tips on that, let me know!

I have no complaints about your characterization. Your characters are fun to play off and follow. However you have a tendency of dropping threads rather frequently. It's difficult to maintain CR with you because many threads and logs are left incomplete. This is not limited to a single incident or two either, but rather it is an ongoing concern. Myself and others are left uncertain about the outcome of plot aspects due to lack of response on your part. This is something you may wish to keep in mind in the future.

I know how crazy the graduate student life can be, so let me just say I'm always impressed with your consistency in tagging. You rarely drop tags, you tag around to a variety of different people, and your characters are always fresh, interesting, and engaging. Arya has only been around for one post (to my knowledge?) but she's already painted in vivid colors. April is the only character who I'm really familiar with, canon-wise, and I still think you do a fabulous job with her.

What I always do for characters that have VAs is to try and look out for HOW they express themselves. What types of words do they use, what language do they use in what situation, and where do the inflections lie in their dialogues. I also look for verbal tics or quirky pronunciations, and if possible I try to find video of the VAs doing the voices themselves to see if they do any hand movements or the like while saying their lines.

I don't know if that helps, but it's helped me in the past.

I think you could benefit from reaching out more to the broader Marvel cast prior to making many of your decisions pertaining to Reed. He's a very important character across most of the universes represented in the game. It's unrealistic to think that his actions will not effect anyone outside of the Ultimates cast, and it shows a lack of courtesy that you seem to be ignoring the rest of what are essentially your castmates.

More than that, however, I think you might have a problem with infomodding across universes and that makes me very uncomfortable to play with you. This also goes to my issue with your lack of communication between castmates. What I perceive as infomodding might be entirely acceptable if the parties involved were consulted, but to my knowledge, that isn't happening.

I'd also like to bring up some insular tagging habits I've observed. Whether it's a conscious decision or not, you seem to favor a particular circle. This can make people outside the circle wonder if there's a point to tagging you or trying to gain CR with your characters. Worse than that, it can spread insecurity in the game and give people the impression that you have something against them when you really might not. Everyone is entitled to play with their friends, and people generally don't see an issue with that. In this case, though, it seems like your circle plays with each other to exclusion of a lot of the other players in the game, including castmates.

Additionally, it makes me extremely uncomfortable when you and a few others in this same circle plot for castmates that are not yet in the game. I understand being excited about the potential for new castmates, but this is a panfandom roleplay and exists outside of your circle. When you plurk extensively about characters that are not yet even reserved (let alone apped or accepted) it gives others the impression that you have no interest in cross-canon CR, or even playing outside of your group of friends.

Currently Charles is managing the end of the school year, as well as preparing himself for chaperoning prom and attempting to set up a meeting for those who've agreed to join his X-Men team. I plan to put up an open log for that in the future, once things have calmed down and the flour sack baby plot is over. Mary Jane is getting settled, but is still relatively new so nothing major there.

My tagging pace has been worse these past few weeks than it is by nature/normally, and for that I apologize. I've been adjusting to some RL things and have been trying to pace out my RP properly. I should be back to my usual speed in RP very soon!

Hi, I'd like to talk to you about some concerns I have regarding your playing, particularly with regards to apping and activity.

I think you have a serious problem with impulsive apping and idling in Cape and Cowl, at the very least. I cannot speak to any of your other games, but it makes me wary of building CR with your characters, or even tagging you. This is disappointing with regards to Charles especially (who I feel is by far the strongest of your characters), because I that you're a good writer and I would definitely like to thread with you. I just don't have the patience to wait for three days on the chance that you might tag back. I'm also wary of plotting anything specific with you because you have dropped plots or simply stopped tagging back on them on at least two occasions in the last four months. There's simply a feeling of "what's the use?".

On the subject of David, particularly... Your eagerness to app him makes me slightly uncomfortable. Prometheus has been in theaters for less than two weeks and aside from the standard worries that he might be a walking spoiler, I think the novelty of a new film with a favorite actor might be coloring your judgment and ability to assess what you actually have time to deal with in game. Naturally, I respect the fact that Charles could have easily been a fad app, and you've maintained him for just about a year now in game... However, I still get the feeling that this reserve has more to do with your excitement over the film and less with a practical ability to maintain another character.

Other comments? Julian has been canon updated since the last HMD. He's up to date with the current comics now. This means that he has his floaty metal hands, and to put it mildly he's not as much in love with his appearance as he used to be so he's far less inclined to video than in the past. He also has some changed views regarding fighting. He is very quick to anger and will always fight for his survival (and to protect people who matter to him), but he's not big on the whole superhero deal anymore and he doesn't like risking himself when he doesn't have to. So far this hasn't really come up in game yet, but it is likely to the next time a big fight is going down.

On a more personal note, I haven't been the happiest with my activity lately and I wanted to apologise for that. I've been very stressed IRL and have felt kind of burnt out with everything as a result. I know that I've been slower about tags than usual. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things this month, but again, I'm sorry if this has been an issue for anyone and I am trying to improve it.

The Monster in the Darkness has notably gone through the most change – he’s been in the City for a few months now and has had QUITE A FEW PEOPLE been nice to him. It’s like, a city full of O-Chuls. Also he’s not allowed to eat people and got turned human, so he’s possibly the most developed/changed from his canon pullpoint.

I had a question about Sherlock's recent post. What is the motivation behind the use of codes? Codes seem more like a Moriarty behaviour, and that seems weird for Sherlock. Is there a recent development behind this choice that I can refer to?

Other comments? I'm still getting used to CNC, in the whole "tag anyone" sort of way; it's like growing familiar with a game doesn't come right up to me, but I'm getting there. I'm the sort of RPer who has a really hard time to reach out and ask people to do stuff, so if you feel like I've been neglecting my characters, I apologize, and while I'm trying to get over that you guys are totally invited to hijack my girls into your plans. And, I don't know, feel free to ask whatever you want.

Contrary to your note, I think you've done very well in the whole "tagging around" department. My only advice, as far as getting into the groove of things, would be to just pick and choose whatever you think your character would have a comment about on the network and run with it -- there's literally very little you can do not get CR that way.
